Families

Joining your student on their journey

Students are not the only ones who are transitioning into a new chapter in their lives. The families of first-generation college students play an important role in their students’ success. We want to make sure that you, the families, have all the information and tools you need to support your student’s success at UT Dallas.

Stay up-to-date on course start dates, drop dates, and exam schedule with the current Academic Calendar.

Encourage your student to stay engaged with all things UT Dallas by following our Comet Calendar.

In addition to managing coursework, family, and college life, students must also manage finances. Financial literacy can alleviate stress and give students and families a roadmap for success. Our financial aid office is ready to help students understand their Financial Aid packages. Additionally, UT Dallas offers free education on money management through our Comet Cents program.

Part of your team

Earning a four-year degree is by no means an easy task. Academic support is available for all UT Dallas students through the Student Success Center (SSC). The SSC is your student’s all-in-one resource for review sessions, tutoring, and help with writing for a variety of courses.

Nearly every student will, at some point, experience a personal or academic challenge. The Student Counseling Center provides a variety of services to support your student’s mental health and well-being while in college.

We are excited to be a part of your team to support your student! While we will follow the regulations of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), please do not hesitate to email us with any questions or concerns you may have at firstgen@utdallas.edu.

Our First-Generation Family guide is available en Español: Guía para Estudiantes de Primera Generación (pdf)
